Last night marked the first social occasion of the joint residency at FreakBasePittsburgh. A dinner party!

We had 6 people total: [livejournal.com profile] avocado_tom and myself, [livejournal.com profile] trulydoolally and Doug, and Kip & Renee. We're all recent transplants from California, the men all having spent formative years in Pennsylvania (Kip went to school here, Tom spent part of his childhood in Philadelphia, and Doug grew up in Pittsburgh). Tom knows K&R from when he used to live in San Diego, I know Michelle from CrashlandInn camp out on the playa (last year's camp with Matt), and now we all know each other.

I cooked up some zucchini+rosemary+yam soup, a fresh green salad, and some wheat bread with jam & butter. Between the six of us we polished off 3 bottles of white wine, one oversized bottle of red wine, and eleven bottles of Yuenling Porter beer. Not too shabby for a weeknight.

The conversation flowed smoothly, and I'm proud to say we *didn't* talk about burning man all night (much to Doug's relief, I'm sure). Among other things, we discussed politics, PGH Cacophony, kitchen implements and, of course, the recent heat wave.

After our guests departed, Tom & I had some quality alone time (thanks for the caution, [livejournal.com profile] gjunell - we're pacing ourselves just fine!) We fell soundly asleep with a cool breeze blowing in through the windows - a storm front has moved in, and thank HEAVENS it's cooled off considerably as a result.

Today my grand plan is to make some zucchini lasagne, clean up from last night's mayhem, and go exploring the city. Tonight, pizza with some local burner folks.

I am a happy, happy girl :)

ooh, pgh caco, is it still active? Do you think anyone there would help organize a zombie mob in 2 weeks?

I doubt it - they've got lots on their plates, and most folks are burners. But you can give it a try - there's a PGH cacophony tribe. (Check my tribe profile).

I'm glad your settling in so well! Sounds like a great evening, how'd the soup turn out?

The soup turned out quite well! I thought it was on the bland side, but when you added some chopped green onions & fresh zucchini on top, it was excellent. A pureed soup made with chicken stock, fresh rosemary, yams, zucchini, garlic, onions, salt & pepper, and some cumin. None too shabby, and a great way to get rid of zucchini :)

Sounds like your starting to mesh right in. And that soup sounds awesome!
