I ran into a raccoon with my then-new Celica circa 1991. Like it was yesterday, I can still see it in my headlights, scattering across the road on what seemed like tippie-toes, a split second before it damaged my front bumper badly enough to warrant replacement. Replace the bumper, I mean. Those 'coons can worry about replacing their own damn selves.
I should be glad it wasn't a deer, or I probably wouldn't be alive to remember the collision at all. I've heard stories about what a flying deer carcass can do to a little car like mine... and they're not pretty.
