Onward and homeward

By the time I make this un-private, I'll already be home!
My flight from Bangkok leaves the day after tomorrow, May 4th. Headed home to San Francisco! I am so damned excited to be going back.
I made my decision to return to the US only two weeks ago. In Delhi with Tom and Davis on the night of April 16th, it all became too much to bear - I started crying, freaking out about going onward to China. India is so draining and challenging, and China felt like another six weeks of the same kind of challenge. Another six weeks of solo travel, of sexism, of navigating foreign culture and language on my own. And for what? I didn't really want to *see* China per se (not especially) - I was mainly going because it's there, because I was nearby, because I didn't figure I was done travelling yet.
I called Davis on the 17th, as Tom lay sick in the hotel room, and had a little chat. I asked her advice. She said something very, very wise: "Do what inspires you." China didn't inspire me.
But the US? The US inspires me. Returning home and travelling in the US, driving cross country and reconnecting with the places I remember from my childhood, that inspires me. And so that's exactly what I'm going to do!
After a short breather period in SF to get BonBon (my truck) in good running order, I'm headed off to the east coast and back. Hell, by the time you read this, I may already be on the road!
Damn it feels good to be going home. And I'm excited to surprise everyone by showing up 2 months early!
