Four more days in Japan...
Feb. 25th, 2008 12:34 amHere I am in Jim's apartment in Shibuya, doing some last minute research on Tokyo Damage Report to hit up a few select spots before my Japan trip draws to a close. It's hard to believe it's been a month - sometimes it feels like just a few days, sometimes it feels like several months, but it rarely feels as if the past 3 1/2 weeks have passed in any sort of typical chronological fashion.

My remaining plans for the four full days I have left:
Monday - Find a nice park or temple in which to relax and contemplate the world. Possibly sketch a bit on the Morley Triangle proof, if I find a suitably relaxing environment in which to do so. Try to find Kinji in Harajuku for a teensy bit of used clothing shopping. Try to avoid buying any more glasses, though I may try to swing by Lunettes du Jura to window shop. Nepalese dinner with Toitoi, Makibee and other Tokyo burners.
Tuesday - Day trip to Yokohama or Nagoya. Guess I should start planning that, huh? If I'm home in time, head to the lovely onsen I found in Asakusa for an evening soak, followed by some dedicated action figure and hentai shopping in Akihabara. One last trip to Don Quixote, too, for strange fleece fursuits.
Wednesday - Shorter day trip, not sure where yet. Temples. Gardens. Suggestions? Also on Wednesday, say goodbye to Jim (who is headed to Paris for business) and relocate to Andon Ryokan. Hopefully have one piece of baggage couriered to the airport Wednesday morning so I don't have to schlep it in and out of the Minowa subway station (which has no escalator or elevator).
Thursday - Last full day in Tokyo! No definite plans, but they will likely involve a breakfast of toast and eggs at Andon, a day wandering some new part of town and using my JR pass to its fullest, and packing up the last of my things for the flight home. Maybe I'll finally make it to Bic Camera to have them adjust my watch, which has now zoomed to a full 12 minutes fast in 9 days. Get to bed early.
Friday - Wake up ass-early for a final trip to Tsukiji fish market. Possible sushi breakfast. Definite pottery and knife shopping, and definite extensive live tentacle photography. Catch the airport train around 2pm for a 5pm flight home to San Francisco.

This evening I hit a definite brick wall in terms of travel energy - even now, writing out ideas for the next four days leaves me feeling a bit breathless. In my final days in Japan I am doing my best to balance both overzealous sightseeing and travel with overzealous relaxation. This whole month has passed in a blurry, crazy way in large part because I have been so damned BUSY.
I hope I can manage to feel reasonably relaxed by the time I leave, as this will be my last extended vacation for some time. Once I return to the US (and pack everything up, and drive cross country) I will be settling into a full time job that I intend to keep for quite some time. This is my last forseeable chance for a month of whirlwind travel OR a month of jackassery and relaxation. I'm doing my best to accomplish both!
